The "New" Kindergarten

The trademark of kindergarten used to be finger paints and nap time. It was a happy, easy place where children played, learned about letters and numbers, and prepared to read. The trademark of today's kindergarten is the transformation of children into readers, writers, and mathematicians. That's not to say that there won't be finger painting, and there will certainly be happiness- lots and lots of it! But learning to read and write while in kindergarten is no longer optional. That means your job, (the most important, difficult, fun, rewarding job ever) just got even more important- Your child is going to need your help to reach their full potential.  Now don't panic! I know parenting is already difficult enough. That is why I am here. I will walk you through some of the major milestones you're about to encounter so that the only tears shed this year are tears of pride and joy. Because kindergarten CAN be a happy, easy place- for both of you!

About Me:

I have taught kindergarten for several years, and pre-school before that. I have watched as the New "Common Core" has been implemented. For years, I have wanted to write a blog like this- a blog just for you parents as you prepare your kiddo to take on the kindergarten world! But at the end of the day, I never did find any "extra" time. This year, following the birth of my second child, it became more pragmatic for me stay home with my own kiddos. So, I FINALLY have time to write!

The 3 loves of my life are my husband, my 3 year old little boy, and my 5 month old baby girl. I'm sure you'll hear more about them later. ;)
